Characteristics of the Ansar Sahabi : Surah Hashar-9

Assalamualaikum Do you know about the characteristics of Ansar Sahabigan? Allah Himself has revealed verses about them in the Qur’an. Through this verse we get an idea about the characteristics and good deeds of the Ansar. Under what circumstances should we donate? And Allah has taught us what is the best charity.

Surah Hashar: 09

English translation

And for those, too, who took this city as their abode and believed before the arrival of the Muhajirs, they love those who migrated to them, and they feel no (unearned) envy in their hearts for what was given to the Muhajirs, and They give them priority over themselves even though they themselves are in need [1]. In fact, those who have been freed from the greed of the heart, they are successful [2].

Tafsir

The First quality of the Ansar

[1] Some characteristics of the Ansar are described here. They settled in Madinah and became pure and mature in faith. So one of the qualities of the Ansar is that the city which was to be ‘Darul Hijrat’ and ‘Darul Iman’ before Allah Ta’ala, was their position and settlement before the Muhajirs. Before the Muhajirs migrated here, they had accepted the faith and matured.

The Second quality of the Ansar

The second quality of the Ansar is described in the context that “they love those who migrated to their city.” It is against the taste of common people of the world. Generally: People don’t like to accommodate such homeless people. The question of natives and foreigners arises everywhere. But the Ansar not only accommodated them, but planted them in their homes, shared their wealth and welcomed them with unimaginable courtesy and respect.

A few Ansaris applied to give place to one Muhajir. As a result, it has to be settled through lottery. [See-Ibn Qasir, Fathul Qadir, Baghawi] It is narrated in the hadith, the Ansar came and said, Divide the date garden between us and our Muhajir brothers. The Prophet said, No, it cannot be done. Then they said to the Muhajirs, then you share in the maintenance of our date garden and we will share with you in the harvest, they said, yes.

We heard it and accepted it. [Bukhari: 2325] In another hadith, after the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, migrated to Medina, the emigrants came and said to him, O Messenger of God! We have never seen anyone like those we came to. They are most charitable when they have more and distribute them sympathetically when they have less. They have given us enough on the cost. They also involve us in their profession. We are afraid that they will take away all our rewards. Then the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “No, as long as you pray to Allah for them and praise them.” [Tirmidhi: 2487, Mustadrake Hakim: 2/36]

The third quality of the Ansar

That is, the sentence “The emigrants do not feel any (unearned) jealousy in their hearts for what has been given to them” relates to a particular incident which took place during the exile of the tribe of Banu Nadvir and the establishment of Muslim possession of their gardens and houses. Meaning This is that whatever was given to the Muhajirs in this distribution, the Ansar of Madinah gladly took it; as if they had no need of these things. There was not the slightest possibility that the Muhajirs would begrudge or complain about the giving. In contrast, “When Bahrain was conquered, Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, wanted to distribute all the wealth received among the Ansar, but they did not agree to it, but said, “We will not take anything until our Muhajir brothers are also given a share of this wealth.” Not given.” [Bukhari: 3794]

The fourth virtue of the Ansar is,

That is, the Ansar gave priority to the Muhajirs over themselves. Meet their needs before meeting their own needs; Although he was needy and poverty stricken. This is essentially: Good Sadaqah. The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “The best charity is to give from the little wealth earned through hardship” [Abu Dawud: 1677, Musnad Ahmad: 2/358, Sahih Ibn Khuzaimah: 2444, Ibn Hibban: 3346, Mustadrake Hakim: 1/ 414] It is not possible for anyone but a very high-minded person to be able to donate from resources that are too much of his own. In another verse, Allah says, “They feed others despite their love for food”. [Surah Al-Insan:8]

Elsewhere Allah has also said, “And to give wealth despite love for it”. [Surah Al-Baqarah: 177] Therefore, the highest level of giving or sadaqah is to give or give sadaqah by giving priority to the needs of others over your own needs, despite your own needs. The Ansar used to do exactly this. In the hadith, a man came to the court of the Prophet and said, O Messenger of Allah! Hunger is bothering me a lot. The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, sent his wives to ask for food but did not find anything from them.

Then he said, “Can anyone be found who will entertain this man tonight?” May Allah have mercy on him. Ansari stood up and said, O Messenger of Allah! i am The man went to his wife and said to her, “You are the guest of the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, so he should give hospitality to you, even if you give everything without leaving anything behind.” The woman said, By Allah, I have only baby food left.

Ansari said, “Okay, when it’s time for dinner, put the baby to sleep, then we’ll put out the lights, and we’ll spend the night without eating, so that the guests can eat.” It was done according to the word, when the Ansar man came to the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said to him, “Allah Almighty has seen your actions last night. Or said, surprised.” And then this verse was revealed [Bukhari: 3798, 4889, Muslim: 2054]

[2] After describing the self-sacrifice of the Ansar and giving up everything in the way of Allah Ta’ala, it is said as a general rule that those who can protect themselves from the selfishness of the mind are the ones who are successful in the sight of Allah Ta’ala. The word شح mentioned in the verse means miserliness. [Baghvi] It is condemned in the Quran and Hadith. It has been said, “Beware of miserliness; For miserliness destroyed those before you. Miserliness motivated them to shed unjust blood and made the haram lawful. [Muslim: 2578] In another hadith, “Faith and miserliness cannot coexist in the heart of a servant.” [Musnad Ahmad 2/342]
