Hair Loss Treatments  is essential for every man and woman. Male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia, is an inherited trait. It affects more than half of men over the age of 50.

You may not be able to prevent your hair from falling out with age, but there are treatments and remedies that can slow down the process.

Before you go out and buy supplements and special tonics, find out which hair loss prevention or treatment has shown some promise.

1. Prescription and medicine

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved two drugs for the treatment of male pattern baldness:

Minoxidil (Rogain). Rogaine is available over the counter as a liquid or foam. Apply it on the scalp twice a day to stimulate hair growth and prevent hair loss.
Finasteride (Propecia, Procar). Finasteride is a pill that you take every day. It is only available on your doctor’s prescription.

For both minoxidil and finasteride, it can take up to a year to see results and you need to continue taking them to maintain the benefits.

2. Hair replacement

The two most popular hair replacement methods are follicular unit replacement and follicular unit extraction.

Keep in mind that both hair replacement procedures are considered surgical, so they can be expensive and can be painful.

There are also some risks, including infections and scars. You may also need multiple hair replacement treatments to get the desired results.
Follicular unit replacement (FUT)

FUT is a more “classic” method. This involves removing some of the skin on the back of your scalp where there is a lot of hair, removing the follicles from that strip of skin and then re-inserting the hair follicles into the part of the scalp where you are experiencing hair loss.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

In FUE, hair follicles are removed directly from the scalp and replaced in the bald part of the scalp.

3. Laser treatment

Laser treatment is thought to reduce inflammation of the follicles which prevents them from regenerating.

There are limited studies to support their effectiveness in the treatment of hair loss, but a 2016 review trusted source determined that low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is safe and effective when used to treat male pattern hair loss.
More research on this is still needed.

4. Quit smoking

If you are a smoker, you have probably heard about all the negative effects of smoking on your lungs. But did you know that smoking can cause hair loss?
To prevent hair loss, it may be a good idea to quit smoking as soon as possible.

A 2020 study of 1,000 men found that most of those who smoked had some amount of hair loss, compared to less than half of those who did not smoke.

5. Scalp massage

Massages not only look wonderful, but they can also help with hair loss. Massaging the scalp stimulates the hair follicles.

In a small study in 2016, healthy Japanese men who massaged their scalp for 4 minutes every day for 24 weeks had thick hair at the end of the study.

A 2019 study further found that scalp massage was associated with self-reported improvement in hair density.

6.Balanced diet

A balanced diet can keep your hair in tip-top shape. Make sure you include a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, unsaturated fats and lean proteins in your diet. And limit your sweet eating.

Some of the vitamins and minerals found in food are associated with healthy hair. Try adding this:

Iron-rich foods including lean beef, beans, green leafy vegetables, iron-rich grains and eggs
Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, flax seeds, egg yolks, flax seeds and walnuts
High protein foods such as eggs, lean meats and seafood

Last but not least, make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

7. Perform a checkup

In addition to your genetics, there are a number of medical conditions that can cause hair loss. You will be able to resolve your hair loss by treating the underlying condition.

The following conditions can cause hair loss:

1. Diabetes
2. Lupus
3. Lichen planus
4. Scalp psoriasis (due to scratching of the scalp)
5. Alopecia areata
6. Thyroid condition
7. Eating Disorders (due to poor nutrition)
8. Iron deficiency anemia
9. Hair loss disorder, also known as trichotillomania
10. Celiac disease
11. Syphilis

If you have any of these conditions, or if you experience any symptoms other than hair loss, make sure you go to your doctor and get the treatment you need. Your hair loss should improve as your condition improves.

8. To reduce stress

Stress can really do a number on the body including your hair. Hair loss can be caused by a stressful lifestyle.

Stress reduction strategies include:

1. Exercise regularly
2. Listening to music
3. Practice yoga
4. Meditation
5. Getting enough sleep

9. Oil

There is some evidence for reliable sources that peppermint oil can help with hair growth. Rosemary oil has also traditionally been used to increase blood circulation to the scalp.

A 2013 study found that rosemary leaf extract improves the regeneration of rat hair.

Coconut oil, castor oil and olive oil are also widely recommended, but research on their benefits for hair growth is limited.

10. S. Palmetto

Palmetto is a plant with small berries that is often used as part of an enlarged prostate treatment plan.

Although research on the ability of palmetto to cure hair loss has been narrow, a 2020 review has found credible sources that it can help with hair growth although there are some side effects.

11. Biotin

Biotin is a vitamin that is found naturally in foods, such as:

1. Nuts
2. Sweet potatoes
3. Eggs
4. Onion
5. Oats

There is some evidence from reliable sources that taking biotin supplements by mouth can reduce hair loss, but most research has been done on women.

12. Onion juice

A 2014 study by a reliable source showed that the use of onion juice as a temporary treatment resulted in a significant increase in people with patchy alopecia areata more than just tap water.

13. Green tea

Another popular herbal remedy for hair loss is green tea.

An old 2005 study of rats on the polyphenolic compounds present in green tea showed promise as a natural remedy for hair loss. But human studies have not been done to confirm these effects.

14. Take some precautions while brushing your hair

Try to be as gentle as possible when brushing or styling your hair. Constant twisting, twisting or tangling can cause hair to fall out.

If you are worried about hair loss, you may want to avoid the following:

1. Tight hairstyles, such as braid, cornro, braid and bun
2. Hot oil treatment
3. Chemicals used in the treatment of perm and hair straightening
4. Using hot curling iron or straight iron


If you use chemicals or bleach on your hair, seek the help of a trained professional. Don’t try to do it yourself at home.
Consider current medication changes

15. Stop or change a medication

Some medications can cause hair loss. Examples include:

1. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy
2. Blood thinner (anticoagulant)
3. Medications for depression
4. Medications used to treat high blood pressure
5. Heart medicine
6. Gout medications

Talk to your doctor before stopping or changing the medicine you are currently taking.

You may have to wait a while before it is safe to stop taking the medication. In most cases, your hair should come back after you stop treatment.
