The journey of the meta company began

Facebook has changed its corporate name from Facebook to Meta as part of a larger rebrand. The company says it will better “incorporate” what it does, as it expands its reach beyond social media to areas such as virtual reality (VR). They only brought the change to the parent company they owned. No change on standalone platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

The move follows a series of negative stories about Facebook, based on leaked documents from a former employee. In 2015, Google reorganized its parent company, Alphabet, but the name did not reach everyone.

Second, “metavers” do not yet exist. Zuckerberg was keen to emphasize it was a long-term product. So it is strange to have a name that is completely unrelated to your main offer. Almost all of Facebook’s revenue comes from Facebook and Instagram ads.

And third, we know that other big tech rebrands have failed. Almost no one refers to Google as the “alphabet”, a name that re-branded itself in 2015.

What is clear is that running Instagram and Facebook is no longer Mr. Zuckerberg’s passion. He is interested in creating virtual worlds, which he thinks will transform people’s experiences. The constant criticism of how he manages his social media companies is certainly waning. This restructuring may give him the ability to focus more on the company’s segments that excite him.
